Violence, rape, forced recruitment, torture and death; the people of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are fleeing for their lives.

Since March 2012, renewed conflict has caused further deterioration of an already dire humanitarian situation. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes in search of safety, with some families having been displaced more than once.

Twelve-year-old Congolese refugee Mary arrived in Uganda with her two younger sisters, eight-year-old Julia and five-year-old Clarisse. These brave little girls had travelled alone, on a long and arduous journey. Their mother had died in childbirth and their grandmother, who had looked after them, was too frail to make the trip. With your kind donation UNHCR can help refugees like Mary and her sisters receive the relief and support they desperately need.
