Over 3 million Syrians are refugees
This is the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era
Since the beginning of the war in Syria three years ago almost half of all Syrians have been forced to leave their home and flee for their lives.
Exhausted, scared and with their savings depleted many have been on the run for a year or more, fleeing from village to village before taking the final decision to leave their homeland.
Dayane's daughter Yemen, 5, was severely burned in an accident with scalding water during a bombing raid in Yarbroud, Syria. The family fled to northern Lebanon six days after the accident but they could never afford treatment for Yemen. Six months on, the little girl is still in great physical pain, with some of her wounds unhealed, and she is still clearly traumatised.
There are now three million refugees like Dayane with similar stories of hardship and pain.
UNHCR is working around the clock with other agencies and aid groups, together with the governments of neighbouring countries, to help refugees pay their rent and get food, education and medical care, as well as giving basic goods such as tents, mattresses and plastic sheeting.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors in the past year alone, 1.7 million refugees received food aid, 350,000 children were enrolled in school, and shelter in camps was provided for more than 400,000 refugees.
However, with winter approaching more than 2.4 million people are expected to need more support in the coming weeks.
You can help lift Syrian refugees out of misery, isolation and trauma. With your support, UNHCR can continue provide crucial life-saving supplies such as shelter, clean water and medicine and ensure care and protection from abuse and violence to millions of Syrians affected by the war.
Donate today and help UNHCR provide emergency relief and life-saving supplies to millions of Syrians forced to flee their homes.
