VOLCANO DISASTER IN THE DRC

A deadly volcanic eruption in my hometown Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has wiped out everything in its path. Thousands have been left homeless and are in urgent need of your help. This latest crisis is only adding more suffering to an already tragic situation. 

My name is Tresor Riziki, I was born and raised in Goma, I can never forget my childhood memories which all happened in Goma. Goma shaped the man and musician that I am today, it is a place that I hold dear to my heart. The people in Goma are very positive, they have been through a lot, but they still come back and build more. My family, my childhood friends, my siblings are all still in Goma. Goma is such a resilient city, the spirit here is unbreakable, unshakable and I am proud to be from here.

The eruption has been disastrous for local communities, lives have been lost, houses destroyed, and livelihoods ruined. Thousands have been made homeless and at least 25,000 people have become internally displaced. Due to recurrent earthquakes and the threat of future eruptions, the situation remains extremely volatile. Many more people may still be pushed into a desperate situation just to survive. This disaster is still evolving, earthquakes and poisonous volcanic gasses continue to be reported and another eruption might happen. Urgent humanitarian assistance is needed. 

•    $500 will help provide 85 persons with a blanket displaced by the volcano Nyiragongo in DRC
•    $300 will purchase plastic sheets for 200 families displaced by the volcano Nyiragongo in DRC
•    $150 will provide 60 sleeping mats to those displaced by the volcano Nyiragongo in DRC

Today I join hands with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to raise funds for the affected people of Goma who are in dire need of your support. We urgently need funds to help people who don’t have a home to return to.
