UNHCR | Ukraine Emergency
A year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a third of the country’s population has been forced to flee their homes. Almost 8 million refugees have fled Ukraine, and almost 6 million people have been displaced within the country’s borders.
Families forced to flee still need your support.
UNHCR has been on the ground since the beginning, providing emergency shelter, relief items, legal and psychological support to those forced to flee. Continued attacks in the country mean that people are losing their homes and even their loved ones every day. We will stay and continue working in Ukraine and neighbouring countries as long as necessary to help those in need.
But we cannot do it without you.
With no end to the war in sight, we rely on your generosity to continue providing essential, life-saving relief to people who have lost everything.

With teams across Ukraine and in neighbouring countries hosting refugees from Ukraine, UNHCR is providing protection and humanitarian assistance, including emergency shelters, repairs for homes damaged by shelling, emergency cash assistance, and protection such as psychological support. Winter relief is also provided for internally displaced people in need as temperatures plummet, such as high thermal blankets.
We have stockpiles of aid inside Ukraine and neighbouring countries. We urgently need cash donations to help fulfill these supplies and to provide cash assistance directly to refugees from Ukraine and those who are displaced within the country so they can purchase the essentials they need. Your gift will make a huge difference in the life of a refugee or an internally displaced person. Our teams are on the ground right now working with forcibly displaced people and providing them with life-saving aid, shelter and protection support. UNHCR is urgently responding across Ukraine and in neighbouring countries to support people forced to flee the current crisis. Urgent needs include shelter, relief items such as blankets, sleeping mats, jerry cans to carry clean water, and protection services especially for those most vulnerable, such as unaccompanied and separated children, women and older people, who are the vast majority of those who have fled their homes.
