UNHCR | Urgent Appeal for Afghanistan
As the fighting in Afghanistan spreads, thousands more families are fleeing for their lives.
An estimated 630,000 people have now been displaced by conflict in Afghanistan so far this year, among whom approximately 60% are children.
UNHCR’s emergency teams, with some 200 staff in addition to some 13 national NGO partners, are staying on the ground and delivering life-saving essentials like blankets, sleeping mats and tents.
But our stocks are running low.
We urgently need your help to scale up our supplies as the situation worsens.
Help us prepare so that we can protect these families who so desperately need support.
Please donate now.

3 things to know about Afghanistan right now
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that there were 1,659 civilians killed and 3,254 wounded; a 47% increase compared with the same period last year. Women and children made up close to half of all these civilian casualties at 46%.
The spread of COVID-19 in Afghanistan is turning this complex situation into a deadly one. The health system is already overwhelmed, but the country is seeing a dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases.
UNHCR is providing buckets and jerry cans which are especially important in areas where access to clean water is difficult. UNHCR has also established hand-washing stations and distributed hygiene kits and masks.
Both countries have granted access to territory and protection to Afghan refugees, along with health and educational services through national systems. Their hospitality and inclusive policies, spanning decades and generations, must not be taken for granted.
