In places like Malawi, Kenya and South Sudan, flooding and drought are intensifying food insecurity. These extreme weather cycles are not only uprooting entire communities but impacting people who have already been forced to flee conflict and violence. Lack of food is causing malnutrition on a vast scale, along with chronic health conditions. People forced to flee are amongst the most vulnerable, and the hardest hit by hunger.
UNHCR is working tirelessly to help people before, during, and after, disasters strike.
We are building community resilience before flooding or drought occurs, by strengthening flood defences and installing irrigation systems.
During emergencies, our teams are responding with emergency shelter, food, clean water and essential household items such as blankets, solar lights and cooking equipment.
We are also helping to rebuild lives, supporting the creation of sustainable livelihoods such as fishing, farming, food production and baking.

Help restore what they've lost

can plant 100 trees in refugee and host community areas, to control flooding, prevent erosion, and restore natural ecosystems.
