Yemen is gripped by one of the world's worst humanitarian crises — and a new escalation in fighting on the western coast is forcing tens of thousands more to flee their homes.

Families are running with little more than they can carry. Tens of thousands have been newly displaced across the south and west in recent days — and some are now risking dangerous boat crossings to reach Djibouti, where women, children and older people are arriving on the shore in need of shelter, food and protection.

For many, this is not the first time. Years of conflict, economic collapse and environmental disaster have already displaced nearly 4.8 million Yemenis. More than 2 million children are out of school, pushing a generation into uncertainty.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is on the ground in Yemen and Djibouti — registering new arrivals, and set to deliver shelter, cash assistance and critical protection to families on both sides of the sea.
