Helena Christensen on the Burundi crisis - Donate Now - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

UNHCR High Profile Supporter Helena Christensen is calling for action to help refugees from Burundi – one of the world’s most forgotten and underfunded crises.

When political violence erupted in Burundi in 2015, more than 400,000 people were forced to flee into neighbouring countries.

Please don’t ignore the plight of Burundi’s forgotten refugees. Donate now.

UNHCR and partners have struggled to provide health and other essential services in overcrowded, under-resourced camps. Many refugee children risk missing out on their education and a chance to build a future.

Some refugees are opting to return home and funding is also urgently needed to support them to begin to rebuild their lives.

We’re helping Burundi’s refugees and returnees with the basics like food and shelter. We’re getting children back into school, and looking for every opportunity to help families get back on their own feet. But the scale of the need is immense and we can’t do this alone.

Following her meetings with Burundian refugees in Rwanda, Helena Christensen said “With increased funds, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and its partners could do so much more to ensure these Burundian refugee men women and children are supported to build better futures. So that each and every refugee could not only have the food, shelter and protection they need but also reach their full potential. It is truly a forgotten crisis and needs global funding and attention.”
