EMERGENCY IN THE SAHEL
The Sahel is one of the fastest growing displacement crises in the world. Yet, it is one of the most forgotten.
With fighting spilling across multiple countries, there are more than 2.6 million people displaced in the Central Sahel region.
To make matters worse, the region is being hit hard by the climate crisis, with soaring temperatures and long droughts.
Women and children are bearing the brunt of the crisis. Sexual violence, abuse and exploitation have become widespread.
Your help is urgently needed.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has teams on the ground, helping refugees and internally displaced people across the Sahel. But we need your help to scale up our response.
Your donations could help us to distribute emergency shelter, along with sanitation and water stations to stop the spread of COVID-19. You could also help fund our work protecting women and girls from gender-based violence, provide psychosocial care to help others recover from trauma, and support clean energy and sustainable shelter projects.
UNHCR is responding to this deepening crisis, but we cannot do it alone.
Please donate now.
Could provide essential household items such as mattresses, blankets, plastic sheets, containers for water, cooking utensils and hygiene kits to refugee or IDPs Families.
Could provide an IDP family or a Refugee family with a temporary shelter kit.
How would you like to donate?
Your money helps UNHCR provide protection, shelter and other forms of assistance, and advocacy on behalf of displaced and stateless people every year. We ensure that as many funds as possible are redirected to refugees, stateless persons and asylum-seekers. 85 per cent of all funds raised go directly to field operations. 7 per cent is allocated for global programmes, helping refugees, internally displaced people, asylum seekers and stateless people under the UNHCR mandate around the world, and 8 per cent is for headquarters administration. UNHCR staff work as closely as possible with and for people forced to flee, with 90 per cent of our workforce based in field locations. For further details on UNHCR's budget, read our Global Report.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution.
We lead international action to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.
We deliver life-saving assistance, help safeguard fundamental human rights, and develop solutions that ensure people have a safe place called home where they can build a better future. We also work to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality.
We work in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions.
