UNHCR | Middle East Emergency | Donate now
Families across the Middle East are being forced to flee their homes as the conflict intensifies. In both Lebanon and Iran, thousands of families—including many who were already refugees—are fleeing with nowhere safe to go and in urgent need of protection and assistance.
In Iran, preliminary government assessments indicate that more than 3 million people are temporarily displaced internally as conflict escalates. In Lebanon, over 1 million people have registered on the government’s displacement platform and remain internally displaced—35% of them children—and the numbers continue to rise every day.
Among those fleeing are families who have already escaped violence once and are now running for their lives again, carrying only what they can and with little to no social or economic support in places of displacement.
UNHCR teams are on the ground across the region, providing legal and social protection services, emergency relief items, and safe shelter for families who have lost everything. We are present at borders and inside affected areas, supporting those most in need and preparing to assist many more as the situation evolves.
UNHCR is the largest UN agency in Iran and maintains a major presence across the region, with teams on the ground, vital relief stockpiles, established supply chains, and emergency financial aid systems ready to scale up rapidly.
