Lighting Lives: Bringing Safe, Sustainable Light to Displaced Families

Solar lighting helps families forced to flee reclaim safety, dignity, and a sense of normalcy.

Through the Lighting Lives partnership between UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the Signify Foundation, safe, sustainable light is brought to displaced communities in refugee settlements around the world — including in Ukraine, Pakistan, Uganda and many other locations.

Solar light makes a real impact:
  • ✨ Helps children study safely after sunset
  • ✨ Provides safer movement for women and girls
  • ✨ Reduces dependency on unsafe fuels like kerosene
  • ✨ Improves community safety in camps and settlements
  • ✨ Restores dignity and a sense of normalcy for families

Solar lighting enables children to study after dark, helps women and girls move safely, and allows families to regain dignity, security, and a sense of normalcy — even in extremely challenging conditions.
