“I’m traveling to Mozambique to shine a spotlight on the humanitarian tragedy impacting the country. Conflict and violence compounded by the destruction caused by climate change have forced close to a million people to flee their homes in search of safety. Join me and support Mozambicans and refugees who need emergency relief today,” Leanne Manas, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador

In northern Mozambique, brutal attacks by armed groups has led to horrific reports of beheading – including of children – and rape. The deadly attacks have forced thousands to flee on foot or by boat. They arrived in safer towns in distress and traumatized, with very few belongings.

We need your help TODAY.

Women and children are the majority of those displaced and the most at risk of violence and abuse. The frequent natural disasters and economic and development struggles are exacerbating the crisis in the country.

UNHCR is on the ground providing life-saving emergency assistance and protection services to those forced to flee, such as psychosocial first aid, prevention and response to gender-based violence, shelter materials, sleeping mats, blankets, kitchen sets, buckets, jerry cans and solar lamps.

But the needs are growing by the day, and we cannot stop this spiral of vulnerability alone.

Leanne Manas, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, and SABC media personality is traveling Mozambique to meet with families forced to flee their homes because of violence, conflict and natural disasters. Join her appeal and support a forcibly displaced family today.
