Horn of Africa Food Crisis
Help the Hardest Hit by Hunger today
We’ve all felt the impact of the global economic downturn and shockwaves of the war in Ukraine. But it is being felt in full force across the Horn of Africa, depleting its food supply and causing food prices to rise month on month. Conflict, drought and climate change have made food insecurity worse across the region and families are being forced to flee.
When people flee their homes, often on perilous journeys, they leave their belongings and their community networks. In some cases when refugees do reach safety, they lack access to shelter, livelihoods, and social protection. In a hunger crisis like this one, it is refugees and displaced families who are most at risk. They are struggling to put food on the table. They are among the Hardest Hit by Hunger.
UNHCR has a simple answer to this complex situation - and it’s your support that can make the difference.
You can support our cash assistance programme across the Horn of Africa. It provides families with a lifeline so that they can urgently buy the food and essentials they need to survive.
We won’t stop until hunger stops.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees. We work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war or disaster at home. Learn more here.
Your money helps UNHCR provide protection, shelter and other forms of assistance, and advocacy on behalf of refugees every year. We ensure that as many funds as possible are redirected to refugees forced to flee their homes. 85 per cent of all funds raised go directly to field operations. 7 per cent is allocated for global programmes, helping refugees under the UNHCR mandate around the world, and 8 per cent is for headquarters administration. UNHCR staff work as closely as possible with and for people forced to flee, with 90 per cent of our workforce based in field locations. For further details on UNHCR's budget, read our Global Report.
