Without a birth certificate, children and families who are displaced due to armed conflict or at risk of being stateless face difficulties in accessing their rights: to nationality, to education, health care & livelihood, and to a brighter future.

A gift from you will enable UNHCR’s birth registration initiative to reach more populations at risk of statelessness in vulnerable and far-flung communities in the Bangsamoro region, including the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

With your support, more Sama Bajaus and unregistered children in the context of displacement due to armed conflict and their families will be given access to a legal identity, which in turn safeguards their rights and improves their access to other social services.

UNHCR co-chairs the Protection Cluster with the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Philippines since January 2011. The Protection Cluster has been established by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) Circular No.5 series of 10 May 2007.
