In Lebanon, people are being forced to flee en masse, as evacuation orders now cover Beirut's southern suburbs and areas across the south of the country. Over 95,000 people are crowded into makeshift shelters, and UNHCR is scaling up to meet the needs.

What does UNHCR do?

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization working to save lives, protect rights and build a better future for refugees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. We work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find refuge from violence or persecution.

How does UNHCR spend my donation?

Your money helps UNHCR provide protection, shelter and other forms of assistance, and advocacy on behalf of displaced and stateless people every year. We ensure that as many funds as possible are redirected to refugees, stateless persons and asylum-seekers. 85 per cent of all funds raised go directly to field operations. 7 per cent is allocated for global programmes, helping refugees, internally displaced people, asylum seekers and stateless people under the UNHCR mandate around the world, and 8 per cent is for headquarters administration. UNHCR staff work as closely as possible with and for people forced to flee, with 90 per cent of our workforce based in field locations. For further details on UNHCR's budget, read our Global Report.

UNHCR co-chairs the Protection Cluster with the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Philippines since January 2011. The Protection Cluster has been established by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) Circular No.5 series of 10 May 2007.

Tax laws on contributions to United Nations agencies vary from country to country. Donations made to UNHCR Philippines may not be applicable for a tax deduction. We are, however, able to issue a donation receipt to confirm your contribution.
