TÜRKIYE-SYRIA EARTHQUAKE
EMERGENCY APPEAL

Devastating earthquakes have affected families in Türkiye and Syria — your urgent response is needed to save lives.

It has been 12 years of crisis in Syria and life is harder than ever for displaced families. The Syrian conflict has sadly faded from the spotlight. Millions of Syrian children have never known a different life. The recent earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria have destroyed or severely damaged people’s homes and devastated lives even further.
We are aware of media reports of powerful earthquakes in southern Hatay, Türkiye on 20 February. This is reported just 2 weeks since the last catastrophic earthquakes, following which UNHCR has been supporting national efforts of assistance in Türkiye, and is working with partners in Syria to deliver assistance to people affected.
Our teams in the region are assessing the impact and consequences of these new earthquakes. We stand ready to provide further relief as needed and where possible, and extend our solidarity to everyone affected by this disaster.

Two powerful earthquakes have struck in south-eastern Türkiye and northern Syria. Thousands of people are confirmed dead across Türkiye and Syria, with numbers expected to rise. Amongst those affected inside Syria are Syrians who are still displaced in their own country and living in flimsy shelters, tents and partially destroyed buildings. In Türkiye, the impact also includes thousands of refugees, and the communities that have been generously hosting them for nearly 12 years.

The earthquake has destroyed people’s homes and local infrastructure—families are in urgent need of relief items and shelter. Severe winter storms are sweeping through the region—families need urgent protection from icy winds, snow and rain.

UNHCR is on the ground with emergency items including tents, blankets and hygiene items.

Please give an additional one-time donation now to provide emergency relief to those affected by this devastating earthquake.

Why should I donate monthly or on a regular basis?

By choosing to give a regular donation, you will be helping UNHCR to plan ahead and invest in long-term projects to improve the lives of refugees.

Faster help: Monthly donations allow UNHCR to respond to emergencies when a crisis occurs. Your gift can go where it's most needed.

Support of long-term operations: More predictable income helps UNHCR go beyond short-term emergency aid and provide families with ongoing relief and protection every single day.

Easy to donate: To set up a recurring donation, please choose the Monthly option in the form. You can always update your donations by contacting our Donor Care team at [email protected].
