In Pakistan, UNHCR has supported the Women’s Technical Training Centre in Balochistan installing a solar system to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and creating a safe and nurturing environment for students to develop income-generating skills. UNHCR also provided equipment to enhance the vocational trades and skills training taking place. The assistance has seen a sharp increase in the enrollment of women, both refugees and from the local host community.
“Earlier the power cuts were frequent, and we were unable to work properly, but I am happy that I can now focus on my learning and work,”
said Latifa Ziauddin, an Afghan enrolled in a tailoring and sewing course, and who will support her family with her new skills.
Your support will help refugees like Latifa secure sustainable income so they can provide for themselves and their loved ones.
After fleeing war or persecution, one of the most effective ways people can rebuild their lives with dignity and in peace is through the opportunity to work and earn a living.
UNHCR works to promote livelihoods and economic inclusion for refugees. We advocate for their right to work and support them in becoming more resilient and achieve self-reliance. But there is much more to be done, and we need help to scale up our work. You can make a difference.
