Be a lifeline for Afghan women and girls suffering under layers of discrimination and abuse.
The situation for women and girls in Afghanistan is dire. They are facing a triple threat: escalating violence, deep trauma, and a lack of economic opportunity. Your support is urgently needed to provide life-saving assistance and empower them to rebuild their lives.
The crisis:
- Violence and Protection: Afghan women and girls are increasingly vulnerable to gender-based violence, including domestic abuse and forced marriages. Safe shelters and legal aid are essential for their protection.
- Mental Health and Trauma: The trauma they endure leaves lasting emotional scars. Counseling and psychosocial support are crucial for their healing and resilience.
- Economic Empowerment: Without economic opportunities, women struggle to provide for their families and build a sustainable future. Skills training and livelihood programs are vital.
“There is a lot of violence at home these days. There are arguments, no opportunities, no jobs; [or] only low-income jobs,” said Fatima, a 38-year-old mother of four daughters who have not been able to attend school since restrictions came into force barring girls from studying beyond the sixth grade. “It is my first time to attend these sessions, and I think it is very helpful. It’s a place where I can come to talk about my problems. There is nowhere else for me to go.”
