“Men were shooting guns on our street and planes were dropping bombs around us.” - Nyauke, 18, forced to flee Sudan
After more than a year of devastating conflict, people in Sudan are starving to death. This week, a cholera outbreak has resurged after several weeks of heavy rainfall and resulting flooding.
Famine has officially been declared in a camp for displaced people in North Darfur. A famine declaration is very rare and is only confirmed after many deaths.
Since the war began in April 2023, more than 10 million people have been forced to flee. Violence is escalating, malnutrition is rampant and medical supplies are running out. Now with the Cholera outbreak, funds are desperately needed to support the provision of healthcare and other life-saving aid.
Families are desperately seeking safety and protection, both in Sudan and in neighbouring countries such as Chad, South Sudan and Egypt. But resource constraints and lack of access are hampering humanitarian relief efforts.
UNHCR teams are on the ground right now, delivering life-saving aid wherever possible. But the people of Sudan urgently need more help. Your gift can provide safe shelter, medicine, cash to buy food, and other essentials.
Please don't wait – your donation can help save lives.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization working to save lives, protect rights and build a better future for refugees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. We work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find refuge from violence or persecution.
Your money helps UNHCR provide protection, shelter and other forms of assistance, and advocacy on behalf of displaced and stateless people every year. We ensure that as many funds as possible are redirected to refugees, stateless persons and asylum-seekers. UNHCR staff work as closely as possible with and for people forced to flee, with 90 per cent of our workforce in field locations. For further details on UNHCR's budget, read our Global Report.
