English: Afghanistan Earthquake Emergency
Families are struggling to survive after powerful earthquake strikes Afghanistan again.
Entire communities lie in ruins. Families have lost everything.
Just two months after a devastating earthquake struck northeastern Afghanistan, another powerful 6.3 magnitude quake has hit near Mazar-i-Sharif—one of the country’s largest cities. This is yet another blow to a nation already reeling from decades of conflict and disaster. With winter setting in and temperatures dropping fast, families urgently need shelter, warmth, and protection.
Millions of people in Afghanistan are trapped in poverty and hunger, amid economic collapse and with human rights - particularly for women and girls - under attack. More than 2.4 million Afghans have returned or been forced to return to Afghanistan this year, many with nowhere safe to go.
Communities are still reeling with the effects of previous earthquakes and flooding—they urgently need safe shelter, protection and relief.
UNHCR and partners are on the ground, racing to deliver emergency supplies inside Afghanistan like tents for families.
