Syria Emergency
Recent escalations in violence have further displaced Syrian families facing a harsh winter.
Over the past 14 years, more than 13 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes, including over 7 million individuals who are displaced within Syria.
Fighting in Syria’s Aleppo Governorate sharply escalated since 6 January, forcing families to flee to safety. Newly uprooted communities require immediate lifesaving support in the form of food, essential relief items, blankets, mattresses, clean water, and fuel for heating and cooking.
148,000 people have been displaced. Severe winter conditions put them at even greater risk.
At the same time, thousands of families across Aleppo, Idleb, and AlHasakah are also facing harsh weather. A snowstorm on 31 December damaged or destroyed 5,000 tents and shelters, leaving families exposed to freezing temperatures with little protection from the cold.
Along with our partners on the ground, UNHCR is committed to continuing our humanitarian response to support the countless Syrian families in need.
